This is America’s favorite logical fallacy

I’ve been awareof it ever since George Bush uttered the phrase, “You’re either with us or you’re with the enemy.”

Red vs. Blue, Black vs. White, Us vs. Them. Its all over the place.

Political messaging is often simplified for maximum effectiveness. Its easier to understand A vs. B than it is to understand the nuanced reality.

The world is a gray area and that makes us uncomfortable. So people appeal to us by making the world seem simpler than it is.

You’re not losimg your jobs because of centuries of manipulation, lobbying, and cost-cutting by the rich and powerful. Its because immigrants. Or its because democrats. Or its because robots.

Is is america’s favorite logical fallacy because it keeps people engaged in what they feel is a personal struggle against a looming threat.

As you say, though, the only real dichotomy is Rich vs. Poor. The richest manupulate people just below them to manipulate the masses to keep them rich and powerful.

Until some politicians do some real work to address that, all other false struggles will continue to play out.
